North-Eastern Hill University
Alumni Association

Motto: "Beyond Horizons"

Prof. David Syiemlieh
Member, Union Public Service Commission, New Delhi

I am among many who are grateful to the North-Eastern Hill Univserity for the opportunity it gave me to pursue the master's and research degrees, for fostering teaching skills and place me in teaching, research reasearch supervision and administrative positions covering 34 delightful years. I often look back at these years and believe these were good times for NEHU. With direction, support and good will the University should look forward to even better times. The Alumni have a role to make this possible.

I wish the NEHU Alumni Association much success as you bind and foster links between the Alumni and the University. Ever remember our University motto "Rise Up and Build".

A brief sharing on the occasion
• Glad that the alumni is being organised
• Past pupils should form a vibrant & participating stakeholder of the university
• An alive alumni can play a very crucial role in the development of the university - identify weaknesses,
suggest future direction, encourage & counsel present students, etc.
• Spare some time for your Alma Mater
All the best!

Volumes have been written about what they teach you at the IITs and the IIMs of the world... For me however, the North-East Hill University (NEHU) is the epitome of knowledge, wisdom and lessons for life. It is in no measure less than an IIT or an IIM. Here I share, 10 things I learnt at NEHU:

  • Success comes only with hard work.
  • If you've got to learn something, you better be passionate about it.
  • Learning is not about taking notes and memorizing. It's about interactivity in the class and applying your thoughts.
  • Challenge convention.
  • Think global.
  • If you've got the fire in your belly, the sky is the limit.
  • Hard work and sincerity really pay off.
  • They aren't your teachers, they are mentors for life.
  • They aren't your classmates, they are friends for life.
  • Finally, it aint about studies only, it's also about picnics, parties and a whole lot of fun!

PROUD to be a NEHU-vian! Long live NEHU and the NEHU Alumni!

Dear Friends, It was really exciting to hear of the Alumni Reunion; unfortunately, I cannot be at NEHU today, however, I will be thinking of you all.

For those who may be interested, my research is on respiratory virus pathogenesis, especially that associated with asthma attacks. I would love to hear from other NEHU Biochem alumni, and if you are into viruses and asthma - what more could I ask for ?!

I am sure today will be a fun evening with lots of good food and laughter as friends re-connect.

Congratulations Don! On great organisation and an excellent evening!

NEHU has provided me the foundation and knowledge to pursue my career in Canada confidently and successfully. I moved to Canada in 1996 and started my career from the bottom by working as a lab technician for a small company. Today, I head a department as a Technical manager at L.V. Lomas Ltd, overseeing R&D, product development & Technical support. L. V. Lomas Ltd. has won many Awards and is recognized as one of the Best Work Place in Canada. I cherish the time I spent at NEHU and hope to be in touch with more friends through NEHU Alumini.
